When Life Crumbles: Finding Hope in Tough Times
This devotional book weaves the true-life story of five-year-old Natalie through the thoughts and experiences of her parents, Curtis and Deann Lewis. Natalie’s heart was punctured during simple outpatient surgery to repair an arrhythmia. After fifteen minutes of CPR, she was left with a global brain injury from which doctors said she’d never recover. The Lewises had to make a life or death decision: keep Natalie on the life support ventilator or remove it, hoping she’d breathe independently. Trusting in God, they opted for the latter. In the months following, we feel the pain, struggles, desperation, heartaches, grief, and, yes, joys as they work with medical staff to overcome obstacles and find solutions. And we see answered prayers—sometimes yes, sometimes no, and many times wait. We also see Natalie’s story’s amazing impact on all who encountered her. Curtis and Deann recorded their daily reactions on a Facebook page that formed the basis for this book. Facebook continues to follow the family’s journey. Natalie is home, continuing rehab, regaining the ability to walk and talk and laugh. She is a miracle of God in the making.
